To be an involved member in your community means to actively and aggressively work hard to solve the problems in the town that you live in. An involved person in the community would always be of helping hand in any huge service projects that they can pursue. Just as simple as donating to the nearby clubs, organizations, schools, and churches is a big help than just doing nothing at all. A high school student who mentors young girls or a guest speaker for a school club, or even a small child donating their old toys to a toy drive are all examples of great involved members.
I am apart of the Beta Club at my school. We do many community projects. One successful project we had this year, was our sock drive and delivering them to the retirement home. We chose a day out of school to take a field trip there. Our president worked with our assistant principal and club coordinators to organize the trip and I helped. We gathered socks and put them in festive goody bags along with fresh fruit and candy canes. When we got there, the very first group we gave bags to was so shocked. They actually thought we were selling them but we quickly explained it was just a Christmas treat from Jonesboro High School. Their faces lightened up when we came around. It was such a great experience! Handing out bags and seeing the looks on their faces! After we walked around the entire retirement home's facilities, we went back to the front and sang Christmas carols for the audience watching.
After we left that day, I felt really good about myself and what I had done with my time. Seeing those faces just brighten up made me want to do so much more community work outside of the school. It feels so good to make someone else smile. I felt like I accomplished an inner joy. That day influenced my goals because now I definitely will be in community service groups in college. There will be more opportunities and great accomplishments that can be done in college versus a small high school club.
